Friends: Don't use Local Motion movers!

I have used Local Motion movers several times in the past, and referred several clients to them.

Having a good relationship with one of the managers, and having seen their work, I confidently booked them for our move to our new home in St. Paul on September 21st.

I used my home inspector to check the house ONE HOUR before the closing, and he documented two small blemishes that I was going to have Pulte fix, as part of the pre-move checklist.

Shortly after that, my booked Local Motion crew arrived.

Three movers showed up, and told me that they had no tools, no tape, no blankets, but were "ready to go".

I watched this crew as they argued about who was working harder, and generally fuddled through the move into our home. I watched them try to fit furniture through doorways that were too small. When I suggested they use tools, they reassured me everything would be "fine".

I was tied up on other tasks as they moved, and after they left, surveyed the damage: THOUSANDS of dollars to our BRAND NEW HOUSE. There are deep gouges in walls, holes in walls, chunks of trim missing, chunks taken out of doors and railings, and greasy sweat marks all over the walls.

I was reassured repeatedly by the crew that Local Motion had insurance, and that this would be resolved, and we would be made whole. I had a claims adjustor come out, and he had his contractor come out, within a week of the move.

Since then? CRICKETS. I cannot get a return phone call from Local Motion, other than the booking manager, who has reassured me it is being taken care of.

Our house is TRASHED, and I would be embarrassed to have anyone come over, without explaining that "I swear, this is a new build".

Local Motion has yet to resolve this issue, more than 2 months after we moved in!

Do not use them! I have since found a much better referral partner, and would be happy to provide you contact info. I have photos, if you want to see the horror show...so contact me!

Move size: 3 Bedroom Home Service cost: $1200

Please avoid using this company. I used them for a small local move and besides damaging our walls and our exercise equipment, they cracked our new cement driveway. I filed a claim and they blew it off. I thought they were a more reputable company vs all the others, but they are not. I could go into more negative details. I tried to work and reason with their claims department but to no avail. Now I see that their website has changed. Seems even more shady now. I treated their workers with respect, helped them carry stuff, bought them lunch and gave them a tip. Then when I noticed they cracked our driveway with their truck, I went through the claim process and they did nothing. Again, don't trust them and don't trust that if they damage your stuff that they will cover it, apparently they won't. Thanks.

I will be recommending you to all my family and friends. The service was outstanding!

We had a challenging day that dealt mostly with the new buyers having some major closing issues. Local Motion was our ‘knight in shining armor’. They were able to keep all our furniture on their trucks overnight, until our buyers closed the next morning. I can not thank you enough for going ‘above and beyond’ the call of duty for my family and me. Local Motion was so great to work with. I called our sales person Tony, the next day after our move, to thank him.

I’ll be sending gift cards to Tony and the wonderful group of men he sent out to get us moved. Not one thing was broken, except my sanity! Ha!

Move size: 4 Bedroom Home Service cost: $1300

You would be well advised to avoid this company at all cost..They are not punctual there employees will stand around with there hands in there pocket to the point of you having to tell them they are being paid to work not stand around, they will fill the truck half full and tell you they are out of room and need another truck, they employees are extremely rude, there was so many problems today I refused to pay them and told them to have thier owner call me and we would figure out what I was really going to pay them which is far less than the estimate they gave me .In our contract it said 30 pieces of furniture and 40 boxes 26 pieces of furniture some of which were nothing more than a small magazine holder were moved and not 1 single box.. Avoid this company at all costs!!

Stay away from this company. They hire other companies to do the moves and will not pay the company for the labor.

Be careful with this company especially companies working for them in other states. Justine Christenson reaches out and they first start paying you everyday and then they every Friday. They start paying you late and start holding hostage your payments. After you stop working for them they ignore you email and calls. We have tried reaching out to Justine Christenson, Nate Sorgert, Tony Lupton, Brian Poague, Mitch Rittenhouse and they just ignore our calls and we still have not received payments.

Move size: 3 Bedroom Home Service cost: $1182

My pregnant wife and I were moving out of our townhome to a house 10 minutes away. She called Local Motion and spoke with Bill Apple. She explained we already moved most of the house but we still had maybe 40 small boxes and some larger furniture that needed to be moved. We were scheduled to have them come on a Friday.

On the day of the move Anthony showed up with his crew of two other people. I asked how he was doing and he said, “that remains to be seen.” He showed up and immediately asked where my wife was. He sounded annoyed when he spoke to my wife. He claimed the quote he had was to move 15 boxes and 15 pieces of furniture (he said the mattress was its own piece and the bed frame was another). He also said he had two other guys because his next job was a bigger and more important. However, he had three hours. At this point, I was not happy with his tone talking to my wife and suggested maybe we get a U-Haul if they don’t want to perform the job.

Earlier that day we had three movers from another great company named Clean Movers come and unload our POD. They did everything in 45 minutes. They were very personable and efficient. Everything that Local Motion was not. Based on this it seemed that Local Motion should be able to load our items, drive to our new house that was 10 minutes away, and unload it with time to spare. However he said he was only willing to move 15 pieces and 15 boxes basically in a “take it or leave it” fashion. It felt like he was bullying her.

My wife brought up the fact that the other movers up moved almost the same amount from our POD in about 45 minutes so they should be able to take the rest and move it within 3 hours. That’s when he said, “Well I’m not a professional timekeeper” in a very condescending tone. This is when I told Anthony and his crew that they needed to leave because I wasn’t going to allow them to talk to my wife like that.

I called Local Motion and spoke to a salesperson. I explained the experience we had with Anthony and the salesperson interrupted me to tell me Anthony was a great worker and had been there for 8 years. Basically, he was insinuating that I was wrong and my experience didn’t matter. I told him that I didn’t care about that and he may be a great person but he must be having a bad day.

I was then transferred to the moving coordinator that my wife had originally spoke to—Bill Apple. I explained the story again and he was more apologetic, but he said he was surprised to hear this because of Anthony’s tenure. He had offered to see if another crew could come out that day and offered to call me back. He never called back. Again, this was on a Friday.

The next day I called Local
Motion in the morning and no one was answering the phone. I left a message asking Bill Apple to call me back. He never called that day, Sunday, or Monday so we had to scramble and rent a U-Haul.

I called on Tuesday and spoke to Bill Apple and asked why he never called me back. He said it was because Anthony told him we were getting a U-Haul. I explained that he and I talked after that and he had said he was going to try and get a crew out to us. So again, I asked why he didn’t call us back and he said because no crew was available. He didn’t think that he needed to give us the courtesy to call us to tell us there was no crew available. He then said he could refund our deposit but had no explanation for not following up with us. I asked him to have his superior contact me but I’m not holding my breath.

This is a terrible company with terrible customer service and you should stay away.

Move size: 2 Bedroom Home Service cost: $300

Please stay away from this company!! , Especially the sales person Bill Apple or Bill Whiteis. They make false promises and under preform and under deliver..

1) They promise to bring wardrobe boxes and pack and unpack the clothing that goes in them. They did not even bring the wardrobe boxes leaving us stranded with closets full of clothing, and offered no solutions.

2) We scheduled 3 months in advance for 3 trucks and 6 movers. Only two trucks and 4 movers arrived. After calling Bill Apple to get another truck, he promptly blocked my phone and I could not get through. When I called from another phone he answered and promised to call back but he never did.

3)Theyagreed to move a safe, but when the movers arrived they told us they would not move it. We had pictures and mirrors wrapped and taped in blankets but they refused to move them.

Overall a total disaster from beginning to end. Save yourself the frustration and DO NOT use these guys, especially for a larger move..….

Move size: 4+ Bedroom Home Service cost: $2300

We had contracted with Local Motion a few years back and had an amazing team with that move, fast and efficient and knew time was money. The same sense of urgency didn't exist with the team in this last move. We were quoted a team of 3 for a small 2 bedroom apartment for 2.5-3.5 hours at an estimated $590-$690, my invoice came to over $1100. I sent an email with my concerns a few weeks back, but haven't heard back from them. If you are in the market for moving services, I certainly would recommend you look further!

Some highlights from the move:

- The 3rd member of the team  arrived 20 mins late (closer to 9am): please make sure that is indicated on their timesheet.

- The Team leader called me the night before to expect a call at 7:15a so they could start right at 8am, he didn't call me until about 7:50a - the two that showed up didn't start until 8:30a.

- The crew unnecessarily wrapped things we didn't need to - I was told they had to wrap everything. I understand the concern for liability and such, but we had to wrap things that aren't worth $100 bucks to begin with and have already been damaged (IKEA desk damaged by me moving it, a large old picture frame I'm in the process of restoring, a bench that had water damage from being on my balcony, another bench that my dog ate the corner off) - seemed really unnecessary and a waste of effort.

- The team leader was constantly on the phone and organizing in the truck, he could have been helping with wrapping or moving things quickly and that just wasn't what I expected or was my experience before with the rockstar team.

- So we lived in a difficult area (lots of crime), so I stayed by the truck for security reasons. On the 3 or so occasions I went back up to the apartment to check progress, I caught the 3rd member having a break on my balcony, another time he was inspecting the contents of my fridge and freezer, and another time using the bathroom. A different time when he was down near the truck he needed to check on his private vehicle to make sure it wasn't getting towed. Seemed off and again, a lack of self awareness and again, sense of urgency.

Move size: 2 Bedroom Home Service cost: $1197

Unfortunately I had to call my credit card company to dispute the charge for this move - after having a bad experience with lots of damage - and attempting to contact two people from Local Motion 5-6 times over a period of several weeks with NO resolution (they stopped responding altogether)! The crew was very unprofessional - they were late, took longer than expected, didn't bring any proper equipment like furniture sliders, syran wrap for dressers - they even used what appeared to be an extension cord to move a mattress. They crumpled up the oriental rug that costs thousands of dollars, they were dropping furniture left and right (I was concerned not only about the furniture but also I thought they were going to put a hole in my floor!) They broke a couple pieces of furniture and they even damaged a wall! The movers themselves told me to file a claim with the Local Motion. We did fill out the claim paperwork - and then the company NEVER responded, even after I threatened the above with the credit card company and writing a review. I gave them another entire week to respond and - nothing!

Move size: 2 Bedroom Home Service cost: $1300

Does not show up on time nor send the number of trucks/guys that you were quoted for. Overcharged by $2200.00 due to not sending enough trucks. Damaged antique items, filed claims with them - no response. Doubled charged credit card - no response. Put all garage items in basement, we had to move everything ourselves. Threw their food wrappers and urine filled water bottles all over the yard. Movers are very unprofessional, actually threw and dropped and kicked our furniture. Stay away from them, they also lied to the BBB when we filed a claim, said that they were working with us on all issues - never responded to a phone call or email. Bill Apple flat out lied. Mitch stated that he did not work for them and all other office employee will not work with you. Also, never received a billing receipt.

Move size: 3 Bedroom Home Service cost: $7229

Save your money, time, and sanity by hiring a different mover. ANY other mover including a stranger with a truck. I moved on 7/9/2020. I hired Local Motion because I wanted to support a locally owned business. Big mistake. The move started out okay, although during the height of the pandemic, the movers took no precautions at all. I let that go and thought things were going okay until they broke my four-poster king size bed headboard. It was unrepairable. I was thankful no one was hurt in the incident and chalked it up to the risk of moving. At the time, I was thankful I paid more for additional insurance coverage – an agreement offered by Local Motion. The amount of reimbursement would not cover a new bed, but would help. Little did I know, they don’t honor the agreement you sign and pay for. During the move they also lost the hardware and metal frames to two other beds.

I am writing this review now, almost ONE YEAR later, because I still have not received a single penny for the damaged bed. I have worked with at least 5 different people, all of which have either been fired, quit, or mysteriously disappear. I’ve submitted multiple rounds of paperwork because apparently, they don’t keep customer files. I’ve promptly answered all of their questions including the weight of the bed, purchase price, price of my new bed, price it would have cost to repair the bed, etc. etc. One person visited my house, inspected the bed, agreed it was unrepairable, and gave me a plan for reimbursement. He went on vacation and never came back. Each new person insists I will receive reimbursement, but they quickly stop taking my calls. I hired an attorney who sent a demand letter. No response. I am now starting the process of filing a claim in court.

This has been the longest moving nightmare of my life. Save yourself and pick a different moving company!

Move size: 4 Bedroom Home Service cost: $3000

We had a TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE with Local Motion. Local Motion caused significant damage to the items moved, charged my credit card without my authorization, charged significantly more than their estimate, and management was awful to deal with. The issues with the actual moving were numerous: (1) the crew spent more than 13 hours to move the contents of our 2000 square foot home and did not finish; they still had a half of a truck to unload at 10 p.m. (2) numerous items were broken/damaged, including our new grill and scuffed leather chairs; (3) the crew wrote “basement” in permanent marker on several plastic bins and on a handmade wooden box; (4) many items, including all of our lamps, an entire shelf of pans, wall hangings, and half the contents of our garage were left at the house we moved out of – the crew said the trucks were full and left the items for us to move ourselves; (5) numerous items were not properly packed, for example a TV sound bar was taped to kids hockey sticks and not placed in a box or otherwise protected; (6) the movers left trash in the home and spilled beverages on the floor; and (7) caused significant damage to the home we moved out of, including scuffed walls, chipped paint, damaged stair railing, hardwood floor, and door frames. Immediately after the move, I informed Local Motion that it was not authorized to charge my credit card due to the extensive damage and because move was not completed. Despite my clear instruction, Local Motion charged my card without my authorization and never informed me it did so. In the days following the move, I spent hours trying to resolve the dispute with Local Motion, only to be met with resistance from management and an unwillingness to acknowledge the many issues with our move. Ten days later, Local Motion finally agreed via email to only charge us for the amount estimated. However, when I checked my credit card statement, Local Motion had charged my card on 4 separate occasions without authorization for amounts that greatly exceeded their estimate. Local Motion refused to respond to my efforts to resolve the matter. I filed a claim with the BBB, which was unsuccessful because Local Motion refused to make any offers to resolve the dispute. I then disputed the charges with my credit card company, providing copies of the estimates, emails, and photos; after reviewing my submission, the credit card company accepted my complaint as accurate and refunded the unauthorized charges. Local Motion still has not provided any compensation for the damaged items. In sum, it was bad enough to have a terrible moving crew and have to repair and replace so many of our belongings, and it was even worse to have to deal with rude management and fight for months to get my money back.

Editing my previous review due to a horrible experience my second time using them. They charge for drive time from the last job to your location, my case was about a full hour before they actually showed up. at $82/hr x3 guys that's $250 before they moved anything. I had asked them to come after a specific time, this was confirmed by the scheduling person over the phone. They arrived several hours before the scheduled time. I asked them to come back later but I was told the clock was running and I'd pay for the time they waited. The 3rd mover was not in the quote from Bill Apple. He said $160/hr for the guys and the truck, I figured they were a packaged deal. This change was communicated to me in any way until the bill. The 3rd guy said he was "training" the other two. He drove the truck and that's it. Other than that it was just vulger personal phone calls on speakerphone all day. This same guy decided he wanted to drive into an active construction zone to use a loading dock that was blocked off. After the initial loading the truck got stuck in a giant hole. It was 1 hour before they informed me of having truck issues. I returned, after another hour they said they had called a manger, who was driving out with a shovel. Once he arrived it was another several hours of them trying to break up a concrete sidewalk with the shovel. Finally they decided to call a tow truck, which had them on their way quickly. The workers tried their hardest to get unstuck but it took 3.5 hours too long for them to finally call a tow. Finally they completed the move. Only 3 hrs were removed from the bill for them getting stuck, it was at least an hour longer. They did not keep track of their time and insisted on charging me longer than I know they worked. A simple calculation of 7.2 hours + 3 hours they say they were stuck means they would've left after 10PM. They finished around 8. Then they struggled to submit the paperwork on the phone for another 1.5 hours, and gave up. I was charged the next day for a different amount with no explanation. Now they've been dodging calls and sending me to voicemail as I want to talk to somebody about my experience.

I'm not one to leave negative reviews, but feel compelled to warn consumers: Don't use Local Motion. If you do, expect your final bill to be significantly above their estimate....expect their service and responsiveness to be subpar....expect them to make no effort to resolve any issues after the move...expect them to lie...and recognize that once you sign the agreement to allow them to charge your credit card, you have no recourse to resolve a horrible moving experience because they will simply not respond to complaints over email or the phone.
